Reference in Neurophysiology

This is a preety good reference book. I've already read the firt part: Fundamenctal Principles. I guess that it was a very comprehensive and acessible content. One thing that I've found helpful were the "appendix" of the chapters 2 and 3. They gave some details of basic eletrophysiology and instrumentation.
I think this book is a reference-one and must be present on the desk of every neurophysiologist.

Start your EMG/NCS study with this book

I took a course in EMG/NCS which required one of two texts - either Kimura, or Dumitru. I took the cheaper one, and not until I purchased this text did I realize what I'd missed out on.

There's nothing wrong with Kimura's text, however, this test is superior. Each area of Electrodiagnostic Medicine is approached on a "big picture" level, however, there is enough detail and clinical "pearls" to last for years. Whenever I have a question regarding a study observation, I know to start here - it's the encyclopedia of Electrodiagnostic testing.

The gold standard in electrodiagnostics

Having trained under the author, I agree with Dr. Dumitru's assessment that he has taken the wealth of all published electrodiagnostic literature to date and condensed it for us in this nice "little" 1500 or so pages. I would call it essential. I am now 4 years out from my residency, ABEM board certified, and run a primarily electrodiagnostic clinic. I still refer to this heavyweight regularly. Strengths: thorough, excellent figures and tables, teaches a foundation upon which the electrodiagnostic physician can reason/deduce. Downsides: There are multiple editing errors found within the text, and the index is atrocious. I am able to more easily find information having placed section tabs throughout the book. The binding also fell apart within the first year after purchasing the 2nd edition. A 3rd edition would be nice in the coming years...

As founder and president of Motown Records, Gordy launched and developed the careers of many of the most talented pop musicians of our day, including Mary Wells, Smokey Robinson, Marvin Gaye, Diana Ross, Stevie Wonder and Michael Jackson. He here recounts how, in 1959 with a $800 loan from his family, he started the label he ultimately expanded into an entertainment empire, despite the racial prejudices he and his staff encountered. In 1988, he sold Motown to MCA for $61 million. His self-portrait, not surprisingly, is more flattering-many will consider the book an apologia-than the blistering memoirs written by several Motowners, among them Martha Reeves's Dancing in the Streets, coauthored with Mark Bego; and his former wife Raynoma Gordy Singleton's Berry, Me, and Motown. On his part, though, the 56-year-old Gordy is blithely generous to all: "I've seen how important family always was to me, whether it was the family I grew up with, the Motown family or my family today of eight children and ten grandchildren." Founder of the Motown empire, Gordy has written a revealing autobiography dealing with the interplay between his private life and his recording and motion picture ventures. He begins with his childhood in Detroit and his forays into music as owner of a jazz-record store and successful songwriter for singer Jackie Wilson. Citing civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr. and the auto assembly lines as inspirations, Gordy charts the rise of the Motown hit machine, which manufactured a close-knit stable of well-groomed African American performers-including the Supremes, the Temptations, and the Jackson 5-who brought a gospel-based pop to white America during the Sixties and Seventies. Throughout the book, the music entrepreneur portrays his personal life and his business as inseparably connected, including comments about his five-year affair with Diana Ross. He ends with the sale of Motown in 1988. Though offering little new information, this believable and highly readable account of the most successful African American- owned entertainment operation will be requested by Motown fans. A substantive, reasonably candid memoir from the founder of Detroit's legendary Motown Records, creator of the soundtrack of the '60s. Gordy opens in 1988, as he agonizes over the sale of his independent company to conglomerate giant MCA, but quickly flashes back to the period everyone wants to read about: Motown's Golden Age, 19601970, when Gordy and his crack team of songwriters, producers, and studio musicians (many of them affectionately portrayed here) created a series of brilliant pop records--from ``My Girl'' to ``Where Did Our Love Go'' to ``I Heard It Through the Grapevine''--that made artists like the Supremes, Marvin Gaye, the Temptations, and the Jackson Five famous. Along the way, Motown's success completed the destruction of musical segregation that had begun with the rock and soul explosion of the early 1950s. `` `Pop' means popular,'' writes Gordy on the subject of categorizing art. ``I never gave a damn what else it was called.'' His solidly middle-class, high-achieving parents were remarkably patient with his long search for a career (he was 29 when he started Motown in 1959 with an $800 loan from the family credit union), and he warmly depicts them and his siblings, many of whom came to work at Motown. A fair amount of time is also devoted to his active love life; he had eight children with five different women, including one with Diana Ross, the supreme Supreme he calls ``my star...my leading lady.'' Knowledgeable music fans will spot some selective recall on Gordy's part--he glosses over widespread resentment of Ross in particular--but for the most part he is frank about tensions within Motown and convincing in his rebuttal of charges that the company exploited its artists financially. His descriptions of the famous ``assembly-line'' process by which Motown crafted hits the way Detroit's auto companies cranked out cars shows the producers/songwriters as the primary artistic force behind the music. nothing that we really didn't already know

Berry Gordy's book has some interesting moments, but is basically more spin than anything else. He never mentions certain situations that occurred that are pretty much known by the public and had a huge impact (good and bad) on the careers of several Motown artists. Unfortunately, this book has the same feel as Diana Ross' "Secrets of a Sparrow", which was also more fluff PR than anything else. Maybe this generation believes it's best to leave certain things unsaid and if that's the case, don't bother to write a book.

A Wonderful Book You Won't Forget

Incredible story and beautifully written. Berry is a very interesting person with a terrific way to tell his story which is super funny, insightful and honest. A great, hard-to-put-down book which he wrote -- it's not a "written with the help of another author" publication. Well done Berry. I'd recommend this book to anyone who enjoys great writing. You won't forget it.

Practical verification of the 3D parameters and the filtering is illustrated through a series of case studies which cover bio-implant surfaces, automotive cylinder liner and steel sheet. Finally, future developments of the subject are alluded to and implications for future standardisation and development are discussed.

Suzann and I spoke about this book when she was just getting started. She painted me a lovely picture of just how she wanted the book to be. So when she dropped by our booth and Bead&Button with my official copy, I was so excited for her. After carefully pouring over every page, I can easily recommend this book to all of you. The biggest thing that stands out to me is the photography. The photos in Suzann's book are wonderful. I especially loved the close-up shots in sections 1-4. This is a terrific book for beginners!

Excellent Book for Every Beader

It has been a while since I purchased a how-to jewelry making book and bought this because I enjoy Suzann's designs on Pinterest. Now, this book happens to be one of the best I own. The close up photos are so important to see each and every technique (I'm a visual, rather than instructional, person). The designs are fresh and inspirational. It is a complete jewelry-making reference book, detailing tools, findings, types of beads and size information, plus more. The instructions are complete. An excellent starter book, but I recommend this book for everyone, not only beginners.

About the Author
The Kanji Text Research Group at Tokyo University is made up of teachers whose focus is teaching Japanese language to foreign students. They have spent more than two decades developing the most effective methods to help beginning learners of Japanese grasp the kanji. This group is part of Tokyo University's prestigious Graduate School of Engineering, which accepts and trains a sizable number of foreign post-graduate students each year from around the world.

I am very pleased with it

Received my copy today. (I do wish Amazon would label softcovered books as such so they aren't bent and shoved into mailboxes) So far, I am very pleased with it. Explanations are clear and concise. Lessons dive right in, so make sure you know your kana first. The vocab section can help you muddle through if needed, but you'll find it easier if you already know the kana. To help you, there is a handy and complete table in the early pages of the book.

Essential Japanese Kanji Vol 1 is complete in the sense that it doesn't require the use or purchase of other books. It provides tables of relevant information. The quizzes have the answers in the back. It even talks about the kanji radicals.

If you are an Anki user, there is plenty of information for you to populate a thorough deck for yourself from the contents.

One practical Kanji book

I like the way this book organizes its Kanjis into themes that you'll encounter in real life. Each chapter is laid out according to where you'll see them in everyday situations. For instance, one chapter dedicated to common Kanjis found in train stations, one to those found at the bank and on ATM machines, one to those found in hospitals, etc.

I think this book is for someone who has some grounds on using or seeing a few Kanjis before because the chapters are not arranged in order of difficulty as you'll see them in many other 'learning Kanji' books.

This book helps me reorganize those Kanjis I've probably learned or seen them somewhere before but somehow found it difficult to find an occasion to use each of them in real life. So buy this book if you're having the same problem like I was.

Organized to be effective

Just got my copy--but already I can tell it's systematic, clear, and useable at several levels. It finally explained to me the two "sound" systems--of Japanese and Chinese origins. It is geared to those trying to pass the (U.S.) College Board Advanced Placement test--with a set of exercises at the end of each unit that more beginning learners can ignore. My only complaint is that some of the writing is too small and too gray, especially for the many-stroke characters. Maybe not a problem if you're 15 years old. There are several short appendices: Japanese names, main radicals, kanji compounds. There is also an on-kun index and a vocabulary index ordered by the syllabary. I've just pre-ordered vol. 2, due out in Oct. 2016.
