I enjoyed it a lot. I was so happy to have the story from Plain Jayne continue on and culminate so nicely in the end with this story. I look forward to more books by this author.

Best I've Read in a Long Time

I have read a lot of Amish fiction by various authors,and enjoyed many. This one for sure goes in my top 10 list. It is so different from the others because most of the book does not take place in the usual Amish settings.Sara is a wonderful,unique, fun character that is full of life, and her story is light (for the most part), full of courage, fun, and just a great read. Her friendships provide even more depth and quirkiness (in a good way) to the story. I couldn't hardly put the book down. I would even consider reading it over again! ;-)

Great Series.!

This was another fun read by Hillary Manton Lodge! I came across the book Plain Jayne while browsing in the library one day and thought it sounded like some light, enjoyable reading. I loved the book and noticed that it was the first book in a series, so I started doing some checking to find the second book, Simply Sara.

This book continued on where Plain Jayne left off. I loved being able to revisit the story of Jayne and her new boyfriend Levi. They are such a great couple, and I really enjoyed reading about their budding romance. This second book focuses on Levi's sister Sara, who, like her brother, decided to leave her Amish way of life to live in the English world. This story picks up as Sara acclimates herself to living with Jayne in the city, and her quest to go to fashion design school. It was just like the first book in that it was a quick and entertaining story, and I even caught myself smiling a couple times as I was reading. I don't know if there is another book or not, but I truly hope so! You can bet I will be looking for it!

For Amish fiction lovers like me, I highly recommend this series. Even if you've never read the genre, you should give these books a try. It is a fun, easy-to-read series, that caters to anyone's love of a happily-ever-after story. Hillary Manton Lodge has proved to me that she is an author that I will keep on my "favorites" list.

looking forward to other reviews

I really don't want to be the first to review this book because I don't think I am getting the complete picture. I really wanted to like it. I have been to Sicily and thought it would be fun to go back. It was absolutely fascinating with all the old castles, churches, etc. In this book, there is a castle and the story starts with the family that lives in it. Probably pretty accurate for the times. Where I had a problem was the language it was written in. It seemed to be more of those times than a modern day telling of an old story. I got lost and confused. Most of the time I would be more of .."say what?" than taken with the story. I gave up. I did go to the reviews to see if someone else could explain what was happening so I would better understand or at least know that it was going to get modern in a few hundred years. But there were no reviews. Maybe I will give it a try after other read it and explain what is going on.

Really great personal finance resource

This book is one of the better personal finance books I've read. The author begins by sharing that he grew up in poverty, which is very meaningful to me. It's hard to take financial experts who have never had to struggle financially seriously. They don't know what the average person goes through, but this author does. (I also like that he makes himself very accessible to readers--he actually shares his personal email address at the end of the book. I haven't reached out to him yet, but will be sure to if I have any questions later).

The substance of the book is also very helpful. He covers all aspects of personal finance, from budgeting to saving to investing to finding ways of earning more money. He is honest and thoughtful, never condescending. He uses straightforward language and gives practical advice. Some of his tips seem commonsense when you read them, but his explanation really adds some meat to their bones and gives you more motivation to actually follow the advice.

This is a book that will stay in my virtual library for a long time. I really appreciate the advice found inside and I am happy to recommend it to anyone who wants to improve their personal finance knowledge and/or behaviors.

Learned a lot

The aim of “Smart Money” is to help readers prepare themselves for long-term financial management and to stay far from the ‘trial and error’ stage that I personally know myself and many of my peers are far too familiar with. I was very happy to see early on in the book that the author seems to truly understand what this is like and he makes sure not to overwhelm readers, instead starting with the basics and easing into more advanced aspects of personal finance through practical examples.

The book is perfect not only for students but literally any kind of people without much of an in-depth financial background who are simply looking for straightforward, concise and easy-to-understand advice. Most importantly, the information is practical and can be applied right away – I plan on making some significant financial changes over the next few weeks that I am sure will have proven to be long overdue. I highly recommend it.

Frustrated!!!

I did finish this book, but it was difficult. This author's grammar was atrocious, which was distracting. Complete sentences have verbs in them and there are rules for comma usage! I lost count of how many times the author touted that he has an MBA, yet I feel the subject matter could have been simplified further. This ebook is still too complex for a young person or a first time investor. Not impressed !

About the Author
Vallen is Associate Professor in Hotel and Restaurant Management at Northern Arizona University. He was awarded the EdD degree with an emphasis in hospitality management from Northern Arizona University.

"Dr. Gary K. Vallen" is a full professor in the School of Hotel and Restaurant Management at Northern Arizona University. He joined that program in 1988 as one of its founding faculty, bringing 16 years of industry experience to the classroom. Part of that resume included vice president and assistant general manager of a casino, hotel sales manager, financial and operational analyst, and associate manager for private clubs.

Dr. Vallen received his undergraduate degree in hotel administration at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. Despite the long hours of industry, he simultaneously worked and earned an MBA at the University of Nevada, Reno. His Ed.D. degree with an emphasis in hospitality education (Northern Arizona University) was earned after he began teaching. In addition to "Check-In, Check-Out," Dr. Vallen coauthored "An Introduction to Hospitality Management" and has published over three dozen refereed articles and conference proceedings. He is on the editorial boards of six professional journals.

Professor Vallen operates "Gary Vallen Hospitality Consultants," which specializes in hosted casino nights for clients of destination management companies and in visitor analyses for festivals, fairs, rodeos, and ski slopes. He has developed and carried out numerous secret-shopper evaluations for both hotels and restaurants. The Southwest location has enabled him to assist many Native American groups, including the Hopi and Navajo, but he is also well known for his rural tourism expertise.

"Dr. Jerome J. Vallen" was the founding Dean of the College of Hotel Administration, University of Nevada, Las Vegas, and served in that capacity for 22 years. He is now professoremeritus/dean emeritus. Jerry Vallen returned to the classroom for a short period before taking an assignment as founding dean of the Australian International Hotel School, Canberra.

After earning a baccalaureate degree at Cornell, he entered the hotel industry, carrying with him the food experience gained from the family's small chain of four restaurants. For several years, this author taught and worked in industry. Dr. Vallen earned a master's degree in educational administration (St. Lawrence University) and a doctoral degree from Cornell's School of Hotel Administration.

He has coauthored a book on hotel management and edited a work on thl legal basis for obtaining a gaming license in Nevada. Professor Vallen has served as a consulting editor for textbook publishers; a traveling consultant to the U.S. Department of Commerce that has carried him to over three dozen countries; an outside examiner for the University of the West Indies; president of a consulting company; member of the board of several private companies and public entities; and president and chairman of the Council on Hotel, Restaurant and Institutional Education (CHRIE).

Such diverse groups as the University Alumni Association, the Educational Foundation of the National Restaurant Association, and the Educational Institute of the American Hotel & Lodging Association have honored him. So has CHRIE, with its prestigious H.B. Meek Award. Jerome Vallen has been cited in the "Congressional Record" and named among the 100 most important Las Vegans of the 20th century.

Very Informative but super dry.

This book covers a large amount of hospitality information. It is extremely thorough and has very long chapters. It is also very dry and boring, but that's what is to be expected from a textbook. You will learn a lot from it but if you have to read it from front to back like I had to do for my class get ready for some lonnnngggg miserable times! Turn on some music and have some snacks nearby so the reading experience will be a less traumatic for you.

behind the automation of today...

Very good, comprehensive book. It is well written and it is focused on teaching Hotel management, operations and concepts. It explains some things in a "stubby-pencil" approach (before today's (2014) technology), but this is important because it is foundational to understanding how the transparent "automated" processes work. This is a very refreshingly, good book.

if you want to have a complete knowledge of GI pathology this 2 volumes are a must
Can t believe you can have for less than 100 dollars while books consisitng of incomplete atlases ir biopsy ones or only medical non oncological or viceversa sell for more than 200 dollars!! something is wrong in America but now you know.

Superb, representing a complete update of the 'classic' 1st edition of this seminal work.
The quality of some of the photomicrographs is less than perfect.
However, the excellent, clinically relevant text makes up for this minor irritation.
